  1. BREAK=<ON or OFF>
  2.   Default: OFF
  3.   Purpose: Used to estaoblish MS-DOS's response to the Ctrl
  4.            Break key combination. If OFF MS-DOS responds to
  5.            Ctrl-Break only during screen, keyboard, serial
  6.            port, or printer I/O operations. If ON MS-DOS
  7.            responds to Ctrl-Break for all operations.

  9. BUFFERS=<size>
  10.   Default: 2 on PC's or 3 on AT's
  11.   Purpose: Used to determine number of disk buffers that are
  12.            reserved for use by MS-DOS. Generally, setting the
  13.            buffers value to 16 is adequate, although some
  14.            applications require as much as 64. Setting this
  15.            value too high (20+) or too low can slow your
  16.            system down. You need to experiment to determine
  17.            the best setting for your machine and application
  18.            setup.

  20. FILES=<size>
  21.   Default: 8
  22.   Purpose: Used to adjust the total number of files that can
  23.            be open at one time. Note for each additional file
  24.            specified, 48 to 58 bytes of additional RAM is
  25.            used. Setting of 20 to 25 is adequate under most
  26.            conditions. 50 or more is adequate for Windows
  27.            and up to 100 if using Windows on a Network. Also
  28.            note some users noted fewer Application errors in
  29.            Windows when FILES=size was increased.

  31. DEVICE=<Drive:\Path\Filename parameterlist>
  32.   Default: none
  33.   Purpose: Crucial to configuring your system for different
  34.            types of hardware. This is how special files called
  35.            Device Drivers (files which normally have the
  36.            extension .SYS) are loaded into memory.
  37.            Drive = Drive file is on, Path = the directory this
  38.            file resides in, Filename = the name of the file,
  39.            and parameterlist = any parameters for Filename
  40.            Device Driver.
  41. ····························································
  42. SHELL=<Drive:\Path\Filename parameterlist>
  43.   Default: COMMAND.COM
  44.   Purpose: Used to determine which Command Processor or Shell
  45.            to loaded at Boot.Drive = Drive file is on, Path =
  46.            the directory this file resides in, Filename = the
  47.            name of the file, and parameterlist = any parameters
  48.            for Filename command processor.
  49. ····························································
  50. LASTDRIVE=<Drive:>
  51.   Default: E:
  52.   Purpose: Used to determine the number of drives on the
  53.            system to be recognized by MS-DOS. MS-DOS is able
  54.            to recognize 26 drives starting at A: and ending
  55.            with Z: Note that each drive added requires an
  56.            additional 81 bytes of memory for DOS versions
  57.            less than 4.0 and 88 bytes for versions 4.0 and
  58.            higher.
